NEW NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) on Monday confirmed a smoke incident occurred at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1, which was promptly addressed with no injuries or damage to airport facilities.
At approximately 4:55 p.m., smoke was observed emanating from Baggage Carousel 3. Airport emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the area.
Passengers in the vicinity were safely guided away as a precaution. The area was secured, and ventilation measures were implemented to disperse the smoke.
By 5:18 p.m., responders identified the source as a powerbank that had likely fallen from a passenger’s luggage into the carousel system.
The device caused a minor spark, which produced the smoke. There was no open flame, and the carousel remained fully operational after testing.
Cleanup of the area was completed shortly after, and terminal operations continued without disruption.
“We thank all responding teams and partner agencies for their swift action. The safety and well-being of passengers remain our top priority,” NNIC said.
