THE newly-elected officials of the city government of Biñan led by Mayor Angelo “Gel” Alonte on Friday took their oath of offices at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan City, Laguna.
Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who served as the guest of honor in the event, officiated the oathtaking of Mayor Alonte and Vice Mayor Jonalina “Dada” Reyes.

The 12 city councilors took their oath of office before their respective barangay chairpersons.
In his message, Alonte vowed to continue the culture of excellence in Biñan started by his father, former Biñan Mayor Bayani Arthur “Art” Alonte, his sister Congresswoman Len Alonte, and his predecessor, outgoing Mayor Arman Dimaguila.
“Ipagpapatuloy ko po ang pangarap ng lahat na mas maunlad, mas makatao at mas makabagong lungsod ng Biñan ,” Mayor Alonte said.
He said in his first 100 days as local chief executive, he will focus on health services for a healthy Biñan City.
“Palalakasin po natin ang Ospital ng Biñan at ang primary health services,” Alonte said.
He also mentioned two projects he will pursue under his term—the construction of the Biñan Cancer Institute, and the Biñan City College.
“Mahalaga pong makapagpatayo tayo ng Biñan Cancer Institute para sa mas maagang pagsusuri at pagsuporta sa mga lumalaban sa cancer. Ang kalusugan ay karapatan at hindi prebilehiyo. Pangalawa ang Biñan City College dahil ang edukasyon ay tulay sa kinabukasan. Hindi dapat ipinagkakait ang edukasyon,” said Alonte.
Aside from health and education sectors, the newly-elected Biñan mayor also promised to expand the city’s sports programs in the barangays and to improve its social services to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
He also vowed to promote a safe community for all, including the LGBTQ+ community.
In his first press conference also on Friday, Alonte announced that over 10,000 senior citizens of the city are set to receive their pensions come December.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor-elect Reyes has expressed her full support to Mayor Alonte as she called on all newly-elected councilors to work together for the common good.
“Bababa kami ng Sanggunian sa bawat barangay for people empowerment. Kasama ang mamamayan sa pagpaplano like sa education, health services sa seniors and PWDs,” Reyes said.
“Susuportahan ko po si mayor sa executive-legislative agenda at sa pagpapatupad ng programs and batas sa Biñan,” the vice mayor added.
