A MAGNITUDE 6.2 earthquake late Saturday night shook Surigao del Sur, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, was recorded at 10:32 p.m. with a depth of 10 kilometers.
The epicenter of the tremor was located at 22 kilometers northeast of Cagwait town.
Intensity 4 was recorded at Cagwait and Carmen, Surigao del Sur; Cagayan de Oro City; Davao City; and Butuan City.
Intensity 3 was felt in Abuyog, Leyte; Hinunangan, Hinundayan, San Francisco, and Silago, Southern Leyte; Cabanglasan, Don Carlos, Malaybalay City , and San Fernando, Bukidnon; Bislig City, Surigao del Sur; and Mati City in Davao Oriental.
Damage and aftershocks are expected according to Phivolcs.
MAGNITUDE 5.1 QUAKE JOLTS ZAMBALES
Meanwhile, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake on Saturday jolted the province of Zambales, Phivolcs said.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 102 kilometers, was felt at 5:32 p.m. with its epicenter located around 25 kilometers southeast of Botolan.
Intensity 3 was recorded in Botolan and Cabangan, Zambales while intensity 2 in Manila and Marikina.
Phivolcs said aftershocks may occur after the quake.
The Surigao and Zambales tremors occurred a day after twin earthquakes struck off the coast of Davao Oriental.
The first, with magnitude 7.4, occurred at 9:43 a.m. Firday while magnitude 6.8 earthquake was recorded at 7:12 p.m. of the same day, with epicenter at Manay town in Davao Oriental.
On Sept. 30, a magnitude 6.9 quake hit off the northeastern part of Bogo City in Cebu.
