A 50-YEAR-OLD man on Saturday died in a fire that hit a residential area in Marikina City.
An investigation showed the fire broke out around 2:03 a.m. on Saturday in a compound on Road 3 in Bgy. Tañong.
Witnesses said the victim was last seen bringing his grandchildren out of the burning house, including a baby.
Despite the raging blaze, the victim reportedly returned to his house to get his bag containing cash, identification cards and personal items.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire at 2:56 a.m.
The victim’s body was found among the debris during clearing operations.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) placed the fire damage at P350,000.
Authorities are investigating what caused the fire that destroyed at least six houses.
