MANILA Electric Company (Meralco) has announced that it will reduce power rates for the January 2026 billing
Meralco said this is due to lower transmission charges and reduced prices in the spot market and contract rates.
The company said electricity rates this month would be slashed by P0.1637 per kilowatt hour (kWh), bringing down the overall rate for a typical household to P12.9508 per kWh.
This means that a typical household consuming 200 kWh a month would see a reduction of about P33 in their electricity bill.
Those with a monthly consumption of 300 kWh will see a ₱49 reduction in their electricity bill, ₱65 for those consuming 400 kWh, and ₱82 for those consuming 500 kWh, Meralco said.
“While there were upward pressures on certain cost components this January, overall electricity rates declined for the second straight month. We hope that this development will bring relief to all our customers as we start another year,” Joe Zaldarriaga, Meralco vice president and head of Corporate Communications, said
