THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Sunday confirmed that former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secretary Manuel Bonoan is back in the Philippines.
According to the BI, Bonoan arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City on Sunday morning aboard China Airlines flight CI0701 from Taipei.
He arrived without any travel companion.
The former DPWH chief is under an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) in connection with the ongoing investigations into alleged anomalous flood control projects.
However, the BI clarified that an ILBO does not prevent any individual from leaving the country.
Bonoan left the Philippines to accompany his wife who was to undergo a medical procedure in the United States (US), the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the bureau has already relayed Bonoan’s arrival details to DOJ Acting Secretary Fredderick Vida, in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Bonoan and other former DPWH officials are facing criminal and administrative cases in connection with the P95 million flood control project in Bocaue, Bulacan.
The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), which is investigating the flood control mess, recommended the filing of the charges against Bonoan and the other DPWH executives.
