THE Quezon provincial mainstream media practitioners on Sunday founded the Quezon Media Sports Club (QMSC) and elected People’s Journal scribe Gemi Formaran as its president.
The election of the newly-created local media group was held at Fresh Air Hotel and Restaurant in Bgy. Isabang, Lucena City.
The founding of the QMSC aims to launch sports activities that would lead to unity and “peaceful co-existence” despite the existing political and personal differences among media groups in the province.
The Quezon media groups are split into those aligned with the present administration of Gov. Helen Tan and those opposing it and supporting former governor and now 2nd district Rep. David “Jayjay” Suarez.
Following the election, Formaran, news correspondent of People’s Journal and broadcaster and commentator of various local radio programs since early 90s, has called for unity sans politics among media practitioners in the province.
“Gusto ko, bago ako magretiro sa media na magkaroon man lang ng katuparan na magkakasundo tayo, na maging professional tayo, ilabas natin dito ang politika. Kung ang mga senior sa atin ay nagkakagalit ay apektado ang mga junior at baka pagdating ng panahon wala na tayo ay ganito pa rin ang pagkakahati-hati ng media ay sana naman ay hindi,” Formaran said.
Thirty-six active local mediamen attended the election, with Formaran obtaining 36 votes; Ylou Dagos, who was elected vice president garnered 30 votes; while Tom Alvarez of Radyo Pilipinas who was elected as secretary, got 31 votes.
Other elected officers include Ace Fernandez as treasurer, Michelle Zoleta, auditor; Roy Sta. Rosa and Darcie de Galicia as PRO; Russel Roales as chairman of the Board of Directors; and John Bello as vice chairman.
King Formaran, Allan Llaneta, Tony Sandoval, Nida Junco, Rady Custodio and Benjie Antioquia secured the positions of Board of Directors.
