Janet Lim-Napoles
THE Sandiganbayan on Friday sentenced businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles to 64 more years in jail.
This after the Anti-Graft Court found her guilty of four counts of graft cases and four counts of malversation of public funds.
In a decision handed down by the Special Diivision of the Sandiganbayan, Napoles was sentenced to 24 years in jail for graft and at least 40 years in prison for four counts of malversation of public funds.
The case was in connection with the Priority Development Assistance Fund or pork barrel of former South Cotabato Rep. Arthur Pingoy Jr..
Also convicted in the cases were Former National Agribusiness Corporation (Nabcor) officials Rhodora Mendoza, Maria Ninez Guanizo, and Victor Roman Cacal, and Evelyn De Leon of the Philippine Social Development Foundation Inc.
Napoles and the other accused were also ordered to return ₱20.9 million that was “wrongfully and illegally disbursed,” the document read.
Those convicted are also barred perpetually from holding any public office.
Meanwhile, Pingoy was acquitted “for failure of the prosecution to prove his guilt beyond reasonable doubt.”
To date, Napoles is in jail because of her past convictions on another illegal disbursement of pork barrel of other lawmakers, including senators.
