THE Department of Justice (DOJ) called on fugitives Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and former lawmaker Arnie Teves to surrender and face the charges against them.
The government assured that the justice system is working in the Philippines, where an accused is given a fair trial.
“Kaya nga po, parehas po iyong panawagan namin ng ating gobyerno kay former Congressman Arnie Teves, ganundin po ang panawagan namin kay Pastor Quiboloy, na kung pupuwede lamang, humarap na sila sa sakdal at ipakita nila kung talagang ebidensya,” DOJ Undersecretary Raul Vasquez said in a news forum in Quezon City on Saturday.
“This is the best evidence eh, iyong nangyari kay (former) senator (Leila) de Lima. That is proof that the wheel of justice in the Philippines is working,” he said.
“The wheel of justice may be grinding slowly, but it does function. And our law enforcement, our administration of justice, we are trying our best to improve it. Iyon po iyong mandato namin, iyon po iyong parang gusto naming parang legacy sa DOJ ngayon eh,” the official added.
Teves is facing multiple criminal charges related to the killing of former Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo in March 2023. He is also facing several other charges related to a series of killings in 2019.
Teves was arrested in East Timor while playing golf at the Top Golf Driving Range and Bar in March this year.
On the other hand, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. earlier challenged Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy to show up and face the accusations against him.
Quiboloy is facing sexual and child abuse charges in Davao City while a non-bailable qualified human trafficking case was lodged against him in Pasig City.
