CAMP BRIG. GEN. VICENTE LIM, Canlubang, Calamba City, Laguna — The Police Regional Office 4A (Calabarzon) headed by Regional Director Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth T. Lucas yesterday presented significant accomplishments in its ongoing efforts to combat the proliferation of loose firearms within the region.
Lucas led the presentation of the seized firearms yesterday at the MPC Hall in this camp.
According to the Calabarzon top cop, from October 1 to December 13, 2023, PRO4A personnel conducted various operations, including the service of search warrants, “Oplan Katok,” and other strategic initiatives, resulting in the confiscation, seizure, recovery, and surrender of a substantial number of firearms.
Operating units confiscated 191 and recovered eight loose firearms while 28 were surrendered and 551 were turned in to authorities.
The PRO4A was also able to arrest 182 individuals and filed cases to court in relation to violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
“Our primary goal in these operations is to mitigate shooting incidents and other criminal activities involving the use of illegal firearms to ensure the safety of our communities,” Lucas said.
The official said if those guns were not seized and went to the hands of individuals involved in criminal activities, they will pose a direct threat to public safety.
He said the PRO4A aims to curtail the potential for violence and create a secure environment for the people of Calabarzon.
Lucas also said that the PRO4A continuously implements robust preventive measures to avoid indiscriminate firing and related incidents and conducts public awareness campaigns to intensify efforts to educate the public on the dangers of indiscriminate firing and the legal consequences associated with it.
“Our personnel will conduct heightened patrols and set up checkpoints in strategic areas to deter any unlawful activities, including the illegal discharge of firearms. We are also collaborating closely with local government units, community leaders, and other stakeholders to foster a collective approach in maintaining peace and order during this festive season,” the Calabarzon top cop said.
He urged the public to partner with the authorities in creating a secure environment, especially during the coming Yuletide season.
Lucas said the confiscated loose guns will be turned over to the Regional Civil Security Unit 4A for proper disposal.
