THE local government unit of Noveleta Cavite under Mayor Dino Chua and Rural Health Unit head Dr. Maria Hilda Bucu launched a vaccination drive to prevent babies in the town get infected with pertussis or whooping cough.
This despite of no reported pertussis cases in Noveleta.
Free vaccination for babies were coducted at the Out-Patient Department (OPD) of the Pagamutang Bayan ng Noveleta.
Healthcare personnel, in collaboration with the Barangay Health Workers (BHW), also went house-to-house to inoculate infants below two-years-old against pertussis.
The team started their vaccination drive in Bgy. Salcedo 2 and went on to the 16 barangays of the coastal town.
Dr. Bucu advised parents to bring their babies to the health centers even on the first day of cough, cold, shortness of breath and fever.
“Pertussis is treatable and preventable,” Dr. Bucu said.
The province of Cavite declared a state of calamity due to pertussis outbreak.
The provincial government allotted P40-million from the Quick Response Fund of the 2024 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund to effectively respond to the calamity.
According to the Provincial Health Office, the fund will be allocated for the procurement of vaccines and logistics.
