CAMP BRIG. GEN. VICENTE LIM, Calamba, Laguna – Police Regional Office 4A (Calabarzon) Regional Director Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas has ordered the relief of eight policemen in Quezon province over the conduct of an operation in the house of a woman in Lucena City on May 24.
The eight intelligence officers from the Lucena City Police Station were charged with violation of domicile, grave threats and unjust vexation before the Lucena City Prosecutors Office.
Charged were Capt. Aaron Herrera, Master Sgt. Richie Yuayan, Staff Sgt. Henry Mago, Staff Sgt. Junar Cabalsa, and Corporals Rainier Zaballa, Allan Abdon, Wilson Bantilan, and Rene John Bartolata.
The cases were filed by victim Renelyn Rianzales, 52, a candidate in the 2023 barangay elections, against
Rianzales, together with Armando Cubos Paderon, reported to the Lucena police that armed men forcibly entered their house at Purok Masagana, Bgy Ransohan, Lucena City in the morning of May 24, 2024.
Acting upon the report, the Lucena City Police Station conducted investigation, which revealed that the armed men involved in the incident were their own intelligence operatives.
All involved police personnel were immediately relieved from their posts and were brought to the custody of the Lucena City Police Station.
The accused cops were reassigned to the Regional Headquarters Holding Accounting Section (RPHAS) for restrictive custody.
Lucas also ordered the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division, in coordination with the Regional Internal Affairs Service, to conduct a parallel administrative investigation.
Meanwhile, the chief of police of the Lucena CPS was also relieved from his post under the doctrine of command responsibility.
“To our beloved citizens, as the Regional Director of PRO Calabarzon, I reiterate my clear stance against misconduct by any member of our force. We condemn such actions in the strongest terms and assure the public that these officers, if found guilty, will meet the full force of the law,” Lucas said.
