PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has issued proclamations declaring special non-working days in seven towns in the country.
Marcos signed proclamations 680, 681, 682, 683, 684, 685, and 686 on Wednesday and made public on Friday declaring the holidays.
Under Proclamation 680, Marcos declared a special non-working day in Dingras, Ilocos Norte on Sept. 20, 2024, in honor of Josefa Llanes-Escoda, a World War II heroine and the founder of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines.
Llanes-Escoda was born in Dingras on Sept. 20, 1898.
Marcos said it is fitting and proper for the people of Dingras municipality to “be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration.”
The President also issued Proclamation 681, declaring Sept. 21, 2024 as a special non-working day in San Mateo, Rizal to give its residents the full opportunity to participate in and enjoy the celebration of the town’s 452nd founding anniversary.
A similar declaration was made for Mountain Province through Proclamation 682, making Oct. 4, 2024 a special non-working day to mark the celebration of the Provincial Indigenous People’s Day.
Proclamation 683 declared a special non-working day on Oct. 7, 2024 in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur, in celebration of the 33rd Araw ng Guipos.
Marcos also declared Oct. 23, 2024 a special non-working day in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur through the issuance of Proclamation 684 to celebrate the Aldaw Ti Wayawaya-lli A Narvacan.
Proclamation 685 was also issued for Pili, Camarines Sur, as it marks the celebration of the Cimarrones Festival on Oct. 24, 2024.
Oct. 25, 2024 was declared a special non-working day in Lemery, Batangas, through Proclamation 686, as the town will mark its founding anniversary.

Cebu town police chief survives ambush; drug suspect killed
CEBU CITY – The police chief of the southern town of Argao in Cebu province survived an ambush Friday morning.
Major Janus Giangan said he survived the attack after heeding an earlier warning that he was allegedly targeted by an armed group as he and his team were about to serve an arrest warrant against a drug suspect identified as Joeraldine Gevana.
A shot from a sniper targeting Giangan happened around 5:45 a.m. on Friday in Bgy. Jampang, Argao.
The attack resulted in a shootout between the law enforcers and at least 10 armed men, including Gevana.
The shootout lasted for an hour. No other suspect was arrested.
Gevana sustained a gunshot wound while Giangan’s subordinate, Pat. Joseph Berlama, was also wounded in the shootout.
Both were rushed to the hospital but Gevana was declared dead on arrival. PNA

MOTORCYCLE-RIDING armed men on Saturday shot a female vendor dead in Magalang, Pampanga
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., Pampanga police director Col. Jay Dimaandal identified the victim as Elizabeth Sunga, 67, a resident of San Pablo, Magalang town.
The gun attack occurred while the victim was traveling on a motorcycle on Don Luis Dizon Drive, Purok 1, San Pablo, Magalang.
Sunga’s companion and driver of the motorcycle Eduardo Maristela, 56, of Purok 1, San Pablo told police that they were going to Magalang town proper when two unidentified persons wearing helmets on another motorcycle suddenly overtook them, and the backrider fired shots at the victim, causing her to fall on the road.
The victim was rushed to the Dr. Andres Luciano District Hospital in San Pablo, Magalang, Pampanga but was declared dead upon arrival.
Police are reviewing the CCTV footages in the area, and has launched a dragnet operation and flash alarm for the possible identification and arrest of the suspects.
