THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday issued an advisory on road closures and traffic rerouting in Manila for the feast of the Black Nazarene.
According to the MMDA, , the closure is set to begin on Thursday, January 8, as part of the preparations for the traditional Traslacion.
To prevent any inconvenience, motorists were urged to plan their journeys.
Around 1,000 MMDA personnel were deployed to assist and help with traffic management, public safety, emergency response, and clearing operations.
The MMDA advisory said starting 9 p.m. Thursday, the following roads will be temporarily closed:
- Bonifacio Drive Northbound and Southbound from Anda Circle to P. Burgos Ave.
- Katigbak Drive and South Drive from Roxas Blvd. to Independence Road (one lane accessible to Manila Hotel and H2O Hotel)
- Independence Road northbound and southbound from Katigbak Drive to South Road
- Roxas Blvd. Northbound from Katigbak Drive to Quirino Ave. and southbound from Katigbak Drive to U.N. Ave.
- Burgos Eastbound and Westbound from Roxas Blvd. to Mehan Garden
- Finance Rd. Eastbound and westbound from P. Burgos Ave. to Taft Ave.
- Orosa St. Northbound and Southbound from P. Burgos Ave. to Kalaw Ave.
- Taft Ave. Northbound and southbound from Ayala Blvd. to U.N. Ave.
- Romualdez from Ayala Blvd. to U.N. Ave.
- Ayala Blvd. Northbound and southbound from Taft Ave. to P. Casal
- Palanca St. northbound and southbound from McArthur Bridge to P. Casal
- Casal Northbound and Southbound from Ayala Blvd. to San Rafael
- Legarda St. northbound and southbound from San Rafael CM Recto
- Quezon Blvd. Northbound and southbound from A. Mendoza to Quiapo Ilalim
- Lerma Westbound from P. Paredes to Quezon Blvd.
- McArthur Bridge Northbound and Southbound
- Jones Bridge Northbound and Southbound
Southbound vehicles will be rerouted. All vehicles traveling southbound on Mel Lopez Blvd. (R-10) going to Roxas Blvd. shall turn left to Capulong St., straight to Yuseco St., to Lacson Ave., to the point of destination.
Motorists traveling from A. Mendoza St. going to Quezon Blvd. shall turn right to Fugoso St., to Rizal Ave., to the point of destination, while those traveling in the westbound lane of España Blvd. going to Quezon Blvd. shall turn left to N. Reyes St., to CM. Recto Ave., to the point of destination.
Vehicles traveling southbound on Rizal Ave. intending to utilize McArthur Bridge going to the south area shall turn left to CM. Recto Ave., left to Legarda St., to the point of destination.
Those traveling southbound on J. Abad Santos Ave./R. Regente going to the Intramuros Area shall turn right to San Fernando St., left to Madrid St., and left to Mulle. Dela Industria to Binondo-Intramuros Bridge to A. Soriano Ave. to the point of destination, or take Juan Luna St., right to Muelle Dela Industria to Binondo-Intramuros Bridge.
The light vehicles coming from Bonifacio Drive shall take Anda Circle, then turn left to Soriano Ave. to the point of destination.
Meanwhile, northbound vehicles were also advised to take the following routes: All vehicles coming from A. Mabini St. and Ma. Orosa St., intending to utilize TM. Kalaw Ave., shall turn right to U.N. Ave., straight to P. Guanzon St., to Mabini Bridge, to the point of destination.
Those traveling northbound on Taft Ave. going to P. Burgos Ave., shall turn right to U.N. Ave., straight to P. Guanzon St., to Mabini Bridge, to the point of destination.
All trucks and trailers traveling northbound on Osmeña Highway going to Mel Lopez Blvd. (Pier Area) shall turn right to Pres. Quirino Ave., to Mabini Bridge, to the point of destination, while those traveling northbound on Roxas Blvd. going to Mel Lopez Blvd. (Pier Area) shall turn right to Pres. Quirino Ave., to Mabini Bridge, to the point of destination.
Light vehicles traveling northbound on Roxas Blvd. going to P. Burgos Ave. shall turn right to U.N. Ave., straight to P. Guanzon St., to Mabini Bridge, to the point of destination.
Police also advised motorists that some streets will also be closed temporarily as the procession approaches. These roads will remain closed until the celebration concludes, except for areas already cleared after the Traslacion procession has passed.
